“Welcome to Hell sweetheart”. Evelyn Delaney arrives up from the country in the summer of 1963 to begin her working life in a suburban Dublin telephone exchange. Dublin, she feels, is terribly different to Trim. Nora, Mags and Dympna have been working there for ages and seem very worldly. But it’s only a year before she can save enough to go back to live in Trim to marry the man of her dreams. A shared obsession with the gorgeous JFK brings the four women closer and soon they discover, hidden secrets won’t stay hidden all summer. This comes with the Venue Managers recommendation for a great girls night out. It’s a performance we can all relate to innocent, funny but with nice serious undertones….a great bit of fun.

What begins as a simple visit to the local pub soon turns out to be an evening of both funny and spell-binding stories, until the final tale takes a strange and unexpected twist and changes the whole mood of the evening. Castleblayney Players are well known to audiences since 1991 and have won many awards for their productions. The group likes to perform challenging and entertaining plays, their most recent being ‘I Do Not Like Thee Dr Fell, Sharon’sGrave and In A Little World Of Our Own.

In her living room Beverly prepares for the arrival of her guests. She and her husband Laurence play host to neighbours Angela. Tony and Sue and as the alcohol flows and the “nibbles” are handed around Mike Leigh’s ruthless, achingly funny examination of suburban life begins to bite.

From the company and the writer who brought Who By Fire to audiences across Ireland and Europe comes a new play, Corner Boys, full of laughter, love, missed opportunities and tragedy. It’s 1963, in a small Irish town shop assistants Alice and Mary fantasise about President John F Kennedy who’s visiting the country. On the street corners, however, a cynical and more desperate life is being lived by Harry and Sparrow, two corner boys. In the church the Parish Priest tells his parishioners how their lives should be lived. The seasons pass and everything changes. In America, president Kennedy is assassinated. In the small town love and jealousy rear their heads with sometimes hilarious and sometimes tragic consequences. A warm, insightful and challenging piece of theatre.

In this new John McDwyer play, the author examines aspects of love from the viewpoint of two people who experience all the emotions that relationships create. With their sensational voices and stunning good looks, The Irish Sopranos wow audiences wherever they go. Wendy Dwyer, Kay Lynch and Deirdre Masterson are the creme de la creme of Irish classical vocal talent. All three have had extensive training and each possesses a very distinctive, very individual voice. When these voices come together the result is a breathtaking creation of ravishing harmonies. One critic wrote “The blend of these three soaring voices would melt even the hardest heart”. An evening with The Irish Sopranos is at once uplifting and great fun. One minute the audience is transported by the heavenly quality of the sound, the next they are tapping their feet, clapping and singing along to the best loved songs from classical, Irish and popular music.

Before coming together to form the group, Wendy, Kay and Deirdre have built hugely impressive individual performance portfolios. Between them they have vast experience on a wide variety of entertainment platforms from lead-singer with Riverdance to soloists on the International Operatic Stage. Ten months after they first appeared together in The U.S, The Irish Sopranos made their Carnegie Hall debut on October 2nd 2004. They shared the stage with renowned Irish tenor, Ronan Tynan. The girls performed in Carnegie hall again on December 7th 2005. The Irish Sopranos have attracted great media attention on both sides of The Atlantic and recorded a one-hour programme for PBS Television which was broadcast for the first time on December 7th 2005, to coincide with their Carnegie Hall appearance. “A Time for Us”, The Irish Sopranos’ debut album is available nationwide and their new album, Believe, has just been released. The Irish Sopranos are delighted to be appearing at Ramor Theatre on the 26th January 2008.
